"The Heartland Center gave the nation its first comprehensive training program for small town development 20 years ago and the program remains vibrant and useful to this day.  The highly skilled faculty packs a load of information into 3 days and creates a relaxed, enjoyable learning environment for all."

--Elaine Matthews, Senior VP, N.C. Rural Economic Development Center

There is still time to register for the Heartland Center's premier training institute designed to provide rural community leaders practical applications that can be used immediately in your community.  These skills include appreciative inquiry, clues to rural community survival, effective people attraction strategies and branding your community.

Through our partnership with the Nebraska-based Sherwood Foundation, we are able to provide scholarships for rural Nebraska community leadership teams to attend this year's institute for $150 per team member.  In order to qualify, you must send at least a two-person team from your community.  Registration for others is $450 which is still a discount from our normal registration of $750!

Join us for in-depth consideration of these timely topics:

  • Building Entrepreneurial Communities
  • Engaging and Empowering Youth
  • Utilizing Social Media to Strengthen Community Capitals
  • Creating a Unique Community Brand
  • Recruiting Alumni and Newcomers
  • Moving from Vision to Action

Your registration fee covers tuition, breaks during the three days and lunch from Tuesday through Thursday.  Dinner meals are on your own and there is a wide variety of restaurants in Nebraska City.  Lodging at the Lied Lodge is $119.00/single and $129.00/double plus tax and includes next day breakfast.

At these rates, registrations are filling up and capacity is limited by our training facilities at Lied Lodge.  To guarantee lodging availability, call 800-546-5433 by September 22 and ask for the Heartland Center rate.  Click on the links below to get more information about the institute and to register.

"The Heartland Center's annual institute provides a unique learning experience to gain meaningful strategies, based on real stories from real communities, to advance small towns.  In addition to the learning gained from the Heartland staff and outside speakers, the networking and shared experiences from the other attendees is tremendously valuable."

--David Ivan, Community and Economic Development Specialist, Michigan State University-Extension
